Welcome to Maartenz.org!
Maartenz.org is the domain name for my personal IT environment since 2002. The name ‘Maartenz’ comes from my given name Maarten and the first letter of my surname. Pretty simple, isn’t it?
After running and testing some famous Linux distributions in the past years like Mandrake, Slackware, RedHat and Gentoo on my first home server (Intel Pentium 166MHz), I’m now running Ubuntu as a (virtual) web server. Why? Because it’s one of the easiest Linux distros out there. It’s just doing what it has to do 😉
The current Ubuntu server, which is hosting this website, is running as a virtual server powered by vSphere Hypervisor. Maartenz.org is being used for hosting my own stuff, but I also host stuff for friends and family. This Ubuntu machine is currently running a web server (Apache with PHP) and a database server (MySQL), next to some other smaller services.
Got any questions or suggestions? Please let me know!
